You can use temp mail for X (Twitter): sign up with a temporary email address and confirm it from the email X sends. X allows one account per email address, so a temporary inbox gives a second account its own address. If you keep the account, switch to a permanent email before the temporary one expires.
Does X accept a temporary email for an account?
As of October 2026, X's help center says you can sign up with an email address or a phone number. With email, X has you verify the address through a confirmation email, and the address isn't shown publicly. The same page notes that an email address can only be associated with one X account at a time.
X also says it may ask some people for additional information at sign-up, such as a phone number and/or an email address, to keep the platform safe. Whether you see that step depends on X's own checks, and a temporary email can't skip it.
X doesn't publish which email domains it refuses, and some disposable domains may be rejected. If that happens, the fixes are below.
Why use a burner email for X
- A separate account for a separate purpose. X's authenticity policy allows up to ten accounts for different, non-duplicative purposes, such as a hobby or pseudonymous account next to your personal one. Since an email address can belong to only one X account, each of those accounts needs its own.
- Harder to look up. X's help center notes that if the "Let others find me by my email address" setting is on, people who already have your email may find your X account. Nobody has your temporary address.
- A quieter inbox. X's notification emails go to the temporary inbox instead of your main one.
How to sign up for X with temp mail
- Open ILoveTempMail and copy your burner email address.
- Go to x.com/signup or open the X app and choose to create an account. Skip the Google and Apple options, which link the account to your main Google or Apple account. If the form shows a phone field, switch to email.
- Enter your name, paste the address and fill in anything else the form asks for, such as your birthday.
- Go back to ILoveTempMail. The inbox refreshes about every 15 seconds while the tab is open, so X's email appears on its own.
- Verify the address. If the email contains a code, tap Copy code on the inbox row (no need to open the message) and paste it into X. If it has a confirmation button, open the email and tap Open link.
- Choose a username and password, and save the password in a password manager.
For more on codes, links and timing, see using temporary email for verification.
What X sends to your email after sign-up
The sign-up message isn't the last email that matters. According to X's help center:
- Login checks. When you log in, X may email you a code to verify your identity.
- Account locks. If X locks an account for suspicious activity, you confirm ownership by phone, by a code sent to your email, or with a reCAPTCHA check (locked and limited accounts).
- Email changes. X sends a notice to your previous address whenever the account's email changes.
- Security features. While your email is unconfirmed, you can't request your post archive or turn on login verification.
If you lose access to both the email and the phone number on an account, X says that sometimes the only option is to create a new account.
Temp mail expiry and your X account
With a guest address, treat the first few days as a trial period. Decide if you're keeping the account, and if you are, change the email before day 5. How ILoveTempMail works explains the two mailbox types.
How to switch to your real email on X
As of October 2026, X's steps to update your email address on x.com are:
- Click the More icon, then Settings and privacy.
- Click Your account, then Account information, and enter your password.
- Click Email, type your new address and click Save.
- Open the email X sends to the new address and click Confirm now.
In the X app, the path is Settings and privacy > Account > Email. X notifies the old address about the change and keeps a record of previously used emails for safety and security, so make the switch while your temporary mailbox still works.
If X rejects your address
- Try a new address. In ILoveTempMail, choose New address. A new random address may use a different domain.
- Use a phone number instead. X verifies phone sign-ups with an SMS code.
- Use your own domain. ILoveTempMail Pro can receive mail on a domain you own after you add one MX record, and that domain isn't on shared disposable-domain lists. See temp mail with a custom domain.
Why websites block disposable emails explains how these filters work. One thing a new address doesn't change: X's rules prohibit creating new accounts to evade a suspension and using workarounds to exceed its account creation limits.
Other platforms handle this differently. See our guides for Facebook, Reddit, Discord and ChatGPT.
FAQ
Is temp mail for X the same as temp mail for Twitter?
Yes. Twitter is now called X, and it's the same service, sign-up flow and help center. These steps work on x.com and in the X app.
Can I use one temporary email for two X accounts?
No. X allows one account per email address. Create a fresh ILoveTempMail address for each account.
Will X ask for my phone number?
It might. X says it may ask some users for a phone number and/or an email address at sign-up or login. A temporary email can't replace a phone number when X asks for one.
What happens if my temp mail expires before I switch?
You can keep using X while you stay logged in, but emailed login codes and email-based unlock checks won't reach you. If you lose access to both the email and phone on an account, X says a new account may be the only option.
Is it safe to use temp mail for X?
It's a sensible way to keep your main address private on a new account. Move any account you care about to a permanent email before the mailbox expires. More in is temporary email safe and legal.
